Following the signing of the General Peace Agreement in October 1992 and the first general elections held in 1994, the overall security situation in the country has improved considerably. There are no longer restrictions on road travel throughout Mozambique and to the neighbouring countries of Swaziland, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and Tanzania. However, normal precautions for road travel need to be taken. Demining in major areas has been completed but in some pockets it is still going on.
Like many countries throughout the world, occasional crimes are reported in Mozambique. It is advisable to carry Driving License and Identification papers at all times.
